1800MEDICARE is a free, 24/7 service that connects you with registered nurses, who can provide fast, reliable health advice, and if required refer you to a virtual ED.

You can also use the 1800MEDICARE website or app, which include a symptom checker, directory of healthcare professionals and services, and medicines information.

If you’re unsure about a symptom, need guidance after hours, or want help deciding what to do next, 1800MEDICARE is there to support you.

You may have to pay for the service the nurse recommends, such as a visit to the doctor.

When should you call 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422)

1800MEDICARE is available to everyone in Australia, including visitors, international students, and people who do not have Medicare.

1. You’ll speak with a registered nurse who will listen carefully and ask questions about your symptoms.
2. Your information is kept confidential and used only to guide your care.
3. The nurse will assess your situation using clinical decision-support tools.
4. You’ll receive clear advice about what to do next and how urgently you need care.
5. If appropriate, you may be referred to the WA Virtual Emergency Department (WAVED) for a video consultation with an emergency doctor or clinical nurse.
